Under ordinary circumstances, caregiving for children with significant disabilities is a complex and potentially stressful undertaking. It takes time, attention, and self-education. COVID presented increased challenges.

Mental Health Resources

Below are links to pages offering help, resources, and journal articles about families dealing with their mental health.

Allegheny Family Network offers family support to parents who are raising a child with a mental health and behavioral health concerns. 

Their mission is through peer-to-peer support, education, and advocacy, they partner with  families of children with behavioral health needs to improve their quality of life.

American Journal of Men's Healthy published this great article on fathers and their well being.

This report provides great information and resources.

Exceptional Families is an organization that provides resources to develop family resiliency for families of children with disabilities. Check out their mental health pages.

Healthy Mothers Healthy Families provides resources and educational programs to support mothers of children with disabilities.

OBH provides support for county residents in need of mental health and/or substance abuse services.

Staunton Clinic provides confidential mental health psychiatric, psychotherapy and case management services for adults, and children in the local communities, schools and surrounding regions.

In May, the department launched a new webpage (www.dol.gov/youthmentalhealth) devoted to young people’s mental health needs. Whether you’re a young person, part of the workforce system, an employer, or a policymaker, everyone has a role supporting young people’s well-being by helping more young people access the mental health resources they need and get into good jobs that they can build a healthy life around and thrive.
